Took an ash down in Leeds yesterday and got a strange request on how he wanted the stump leaving, at first I just thought he wanted to leave it like this but then he explained he was going to dig out the stump with his mattock 🙈🙈

I took a similar size cherry down in my garden years ago and killed the stump then dug it out a couple of years later without too much trouble but it was a big hole.

That looks doable, but he will have a heavy old rootball to get rid of.

What diameter is it?

 

At least he didn't ask you to 'cut it off just below ground level'....

There's a big difference between 2 & 3ft.

I wouldn't attempt it if it was greater than 8"!

 

 

What I mean is its got some good old buttresses!!
