Roughing gouge

Am I right in thinking a hefty roughing gouge somewhere between 1-1 1/2", would be the quickest tool for rounding off square and odd shaped lumps of wood before getting the bowl gouge out. One tool sellers website I was looking at said roughing gouges should never be used on bowl projects? Cheers, Mick

That's crystal Steve haha.

Logrod I'm with you there. I can't think of a logical reason for not using a roughing gouge on a bowl. It's just for rounding the piece to start off so doesn't matter what it's going to be when finished.
