Large Ring Log Splitter

Hi All,

Looking to hire a log splitter that'll process 2-3' diameter tree trunks like the machine in the video clip.

Looked at the Binderbinder at APF but couldn't justify buying one so looking to hire in.

Anyone out there got something like this for hire?

I only occasionally need something that big and I was thinking about setting a piece of oblong box section vertically in some substantial concrete foundation in the yard.

I have some lengths of hard steel wearing blades from the D7 Caterpillar bulldozer which I could sharpen and slip into the box.

Hopefully I could load an unlimited length of log in front of the blade and the 17 tons and 14 litre engine of D7 would do the rest.

If I managed to quarter it I could do the rest of the process on the Palax.

The only problem is that it is all theory at the moment unless anyone has done something similar in practice?

If I can't hire one I may well consider making one myself or getting someone to make it for me, can't be that difficult just getting components could be challenging. The key is the splitting grill and ram size.

Hi OAK were thinking of making one when we have time to do it thanks Jon

I've been making some enquiries to source a decent size hydraulic ram but no joy as yet. Anyone got one knocking about they would like to donate to a worthy cause?

I have one that can be yours for a consideration of beer tokens

It was once the main loft ram from an epsillon long arm timber crane

It would need to be collected cos while you can lift it, you wouldn't want to carry it far
