Safety area when demonstrating?

Hello all, when carving at events and shows does anyone have a set distance away from the public.

When placing up safety fencing I'm always over sizing the area, I presume this is better.

Also would this be something with the public liability etc,

Thanks for your help if you can all :)

Nothing was stated in my public liability and It would really depend on your setup area. I have a double gazebo net off one half to carve in and the other half I have items on display. Then where possible a rope rung off area at least 2m from the front and side of gazebo where I'm carving if that makes any sense. I like to have someone with me who knows about everything I do or can do and they can talk to the public and keep people a safe distance away while I'm carving. If possible do something nice and simple so you can carve it fairly quickly. Don't get hung up on putting in too much detail if people can see what you can do from a few various stock items then carving the basic form of something is enough to entertain the crowd.

Thanks woodcrafter, I have a similar set up but interested in carvers distances from public.

Always have someone else over seeing it all and selling carvings which helps. Thanks for the info. I guess you can never be too careful. I presume you use craft insurance like most people

Hi guys I have a gala tent and I use the last 3rd as demo area I have those red/white plastic barriers and also warning signs ( children must be supervised at all times etc ) but some shows that have space we get a big roped off area , I find most shows have risk assesment on there booking forms but its just mostly common scense

Cheers Mark
