1 week old 550xp starting issue

Starting issues with those saws usually turn out to be operator errors - mainly from people not looking in the manual, but doing it as they are used to....:sneaky2:

Manual (and sticker) says to use the sissy button (don't). The 550/560 like to have the crap revved out of it to set the autotune. Don't blip the throttle to warm the saw, as the rpm's are dropping when you open the throttle, and rising when you let go, leading to an over-rich low mixture, and a lean high mix.

A hot saw should start on idle, so just pull the starter.

I was also told starting it with the chain break off would do the same thing. Any idea if that actually works?

Here comes stubby :001_smile: I don't start a saw with the brake on , never have . Partly through mechanical sympathy and partly coz they never had one when I first started a saw . Never had an accident starting that way . Usually hold the body between my thighs . As for not using the decomp that is a better option for ignition . The early saws were weak in the starter mechanism so there were some busting when not using decomp but that has been modded now I think .

The sticker on a recent 550XP that I used a couple of weeks ago said no decomp and fast idle for hot start. It wasn't particularly clear though and took a bit of decoding!
