Burls

Evening all!

I make sculptures out of some of the trees I fell (or parts of them at least). I have been trying to get my hands on burls for a while now, with absolutely no luck as I just never come across them. I have tried contacting companies online and advertised on woodlots, but nothing comes up.

Does anyone have any or know the right people to chat to?

I have a number of burr birch, mulberry and other if you are interested, what sort of sizes are you looking for?

As a minimum I would be lookin to make a 400mm sphere. That can include the stem that the burl is growing from and have bits missing. I will post a photo to show what I mean.

Are you willing to pay for material? I have the biggest burl you are ever likely to see growing on an Ash in the wood. Can almost certainly find others too.

Yes, I am willing to pay. Sounds interesting :)

This is a really terrible phone pic of a 400mm sphere.

You will be able to find them - but I think a lot of people working with trees get fed up with being offered less than firewood prices!

If you pay what people ask for then it works well for both parties - ie you get your burrs and the seller will then keep an eye out for them in the future for you.... because it was worth their while to do so on the first sale.
