The Top ten Fungi

Can we compile a list of the top ten Tree associated fungi.

 

Some of these fungi keep turning up time after time.

 

It would be a good starter for me to be able to learn and memorise the ten most common and move on from there.

 

Just got my Jordans book and was flabergasted at how many fungi there are :scared1:

 

I have got Ganoderma resinaceum firmly imprinted now because of the little tip that resin oozes when cut.

 

Give me 10 to start with :001_smile:

You got two, here's a few more for ya.....

 

 

Laetiporus sulphureus

Kreztmaria duesta

Ganoderma applanatum

Ganoderma australe/adspersum

Armilaria mellea

Rigidoporus ulmarius

Fomes fomentarius

Collybia fusipes

Meripilus giganteus

 

Ooops, that's nine :blushing:

 

 

Good stuff Dean

 

Try and get to grips with the difference between fruiting bodies with gills and the ones with pores, I find this helps enormously.

 

Also get a handle on the spore spitters Ascomycota and the spore droppers Basidiomycota :001_smile:

Ustilina deusta

Meripulus

Armilaria (honey fungus)

Laetiporus

Piptoporus betulina

Polyporus squamosa

Phellinus

 

No particular order, the spellings are probably wrong, but these are some of the most common fungi i encounter.
