it may take some time as i struggle to get fabrication done, i would be quicker sending it down to you mate. i picked up another job today because folk cant believe i sold the mog, they havent seen it about so were worried i had chucked it, so i told them why and my different methods now, within 5 seconds they told me how their cherry tree was dying and their daughter had a log burner. so i have to go and see them on monday and sort them out with some mulch and firewood then replant. sweet

Yeah I'm only teasing, if i still had my own contracting business i'd definatly have one. Fills a niche and makes you more competitive.

 

I have to say though i think your lucky how much chip you can leave on site, I wouldn't have got away with that much in Hampshire !

it aint luck matt, it is all in the deal you make with the customer, they trust me not to leave it 3 feet deep. i would never of thought it either, but times are changing, wanabee rich folk with a mortgage 5 times their wage and 2 bmw's on finance dont phone anymore, which is great. all my customers are either first time buyers or retired, so the name of the game is a good contractor that will offer a budget service. if they want it away it costs them, but with a bit of scouting around their garden or even give them a few days to ask their neighbours or friends if they could use chip or logs can make a big difference. if the bush was their, then why cant a pile of chip 1 tenth the size be there too. kids at school are getting taught about the environment, why do you think i do work with the schools encouraging log piles and echo gardens. yes it is the right thing to do and t enjoy it but from a business point of view it is educating my customers aswell.

Like Stevie, I sell the machine to get it work, in fact its given me a totally fresh outlook on how the jobs can be executed. In fact I've even (on one occasion) sold the client back the chip. Its just a case of changing the way you see jobs. You only have to think of the mess traipsing backwards and forwards on wet lawns makes, dragging out, then think how easy it is to leave the chip either spread around, or in a tidy heap, or in a builders bag. Its all equally professional, because its customer care. I have more time and energy now than I had for a fair while, and can focus that energy where its most needed, my life.

i would gladly have my thread in a landscapers forum, most of the guys that have appeared in the business in the last few years are landscapers, hell its where i started. that is our competition, its only us that think we should ONLY do trees and thats it is traveling folk that offer other services, i wish i could fence personally, i pass on all my fencing to someone else and he does ok.
