Puma, pto hydraulic pump question.

Just looking into getting a hydraulic pto pump fitted to my 2011 Defender, main reason is to power a log splitter , the standard utility LR i think is a 45 lpm 2500 psi but i can specify a higher lpm or psi if i want to, just asking if anyone can help me specify the most suitable pump, looking for good speed, fast, and able to split 8 to 10 tons of pressure, any advice would be great, and does anyone run a splitter from Landy hydraulics . Ram diameter at the moment is 1 3/4" but it may be slightly larger if i upgrade the splitter to a 8 or 9 ton Riko ,

I think before you go down that road have a look at the hydrolic power packs they start about £200 on eBay advantage is your not on white diesel it's worth a look

Thanks Mark, i know that , i have got all sorts of things and ideas going on at the moment, this idea i was going to do when the landy was new but Landrover were going to invalidate my warranty, if i do it it wil be worth doing. Got my reasons. :thumbup1:

I VHS hydraulics used to do them, won't be cheap though, needs a tank and control valve etc..

 

Yep it will cost a bit, Rotec is who will be doing it, just need to get the pump spec bang on for the job. Thanks Tom, you sound like you know a bit about it, tanks and valves , yes, this should have optional front or rear mount applications or also have long hoses . Thanks.

I put one on my first landy to power a hydraulic winch, it worked ok, but it was a lot of work to fit in terms of mounting tank, hydraulic control valve and PTO gear linkage... plus the pump was very close to one of tha chassis cross members, not sure where it would be on a puma....

Yep, i have looked into that and they say its not a problem, Rotec fit out all the new defenders for utility companies in my area, :thumbup1:

Hi JESSE WE HAD larger one then that mate on our 110 60lt the only thing I would say it going cost you loads of money to run it on white Dev thanks Jon

that size of pump should suffice for a splitter. the rod diameter is irrelevant its the cylinder dia that counts the formulae is force x area this size works out about 3 ton you will need an oil cooler for that amount of oil flow as well
