Artificial turf

Has anyone on here laid artificial grass before. I'm currently doing a small area at home and wanted to know the best way. At the moment my plan is to board the outside, fill and compact with scalps. A layer of compacted and lay the turf on top, tacking it to the boards to hold it in place. Would you do anything different?

The boarding is an ok idea but don't use sand for you final finish as the sand will ridge when wet and stay tha way when hard use a round small grit that way it won't ridge and will stay more even when walked on other wise seems ok what you doing and it'll work for you.

I'm currently doing loads the best way for a small area, dig out and construct a timber frame to the desired shape / size

Then lay weed suppressant membrane, then fill with a good depth of hardcore and run Over with a wicker plate, screed off with sharp sand, then lay the grass fixing to the timber frame, finally rub in kiln dried sand into the pile to bring up the grass.
