Hi all

I'm a complete novice when it comes to chainsaws. I recently bought a second hand ms441 with a 30" bar, but when I'm using very little oil appears to be getting to the chain.

So my question is how lubricanted does the chain have to be?

Hi,

There will be an oil feed adjustment screw underneath, turn this clockwise to increase oil flow. 30" bar requires fairly high oil flow.

If that dosnt work, remove the bar & check the oil feed hole on the casing is clear & the oil feed hole in the bar is clear.

If that dosnt work, maybe a problem with the oiler but check the above first & post back.

ideally the chain should be wet with oil after use.not spraying oil like a bike wheel in the rain and not as dry as the sahara.we used to start saw and point bar tip at a log or stump ,run saw and watch the oil droplets build up .i think this practice is no longer recommended now(h+s et all) but it worked jake

I can't tell you any more than the guys who have already posted but I would get yourself booked on a basic chainsaw course as a 441 is a powerful saw for a novice.

Agreed, 441 better on 20" me thinks?

I found rough brown box cardboard works well as an indicator of how much oil is coming off the chain as the stain darkens when it soaks in.
