random drive past in Wilburton, Cambridgeshire this morning.

Had to stop & have a closer look at the tree story sitting here at the side of the road.

great to see a replacement growing next to it, would be nice to think it might even be from its own proginy.

Will have a look in the archives when I get back to work next week Graham :thumbup1:

in the meantime, these from another thread I posted from a few years back

.

Really interesting shots guys, do you recon you can make out the two heavy limbs on the closest plane on the right? just me? makes me consider the huge effect formative pruning can have a few years down the line.

You can just make out the two wounds, this whole avenue has been systematically lifted and formed into a series a very tall and gangly trees.

I think they were too closely planted, which is possibly a contributing factor as to why they suffer with Massaria.

Brilliant thread, I so wish I had taken more photos all those years ago.

What it does demonstrate is how bad I am at underestimating a tree's age.

Liking this one Graham.

Did you just stumble across the old photo or traced it after seeing the oak as it is now?

I have an interest in landscape history so spend a little time looking at looking at local historical photos. This one just jolted my memory. Have an oak to look up also as an old photo shows some children sitting in it after being pollarded in the 30s.

First showing a sickly looking conifer spp. Possibly Lawson's in 1965. It seems to have picked itself up.

Building is no longer a pub and has changed appearance but the oak tree remains. First shot from c1900.
