We have some stuff called Stove Magic which we got with the stove about 12 years ago and still have some left as you only need a tiny blob on kitchen roll when the glass is tarred up. It seemed expensive at the time but it works really well.

Yep cleaned the glass with wood ash it worked fine, wire brushed it all and dismantled it painted the door then ran out of paint. Get some more tomorrow and hopefully finish ir

I run hot water through wood ash in a piece of kitchen towel and use the liquid if I have no oven cleaner to avoid the risk of grit scratching the glass
