flaking a throwline?

Back when I used a bucket( cube man now!!) i would cut some heavy cardboard or old plactic lid and press down onto the line so that it doesnt move it transit and create tangles. You could also put more than one line in a bucket. The folding down on the cube not onlly makes it smaller but cuts down string movement as well.

Refeeding back into the cube is important ,time taken calmly two handed refeeding (flaking?) could save heaps later.

Why go throught the evolution stick ,reel,bucket , cube ?? Go straight to the cube man!!

Ps I do keep a spare line in a small tin.

THe best time saving tip I found was -

buy a big ladder.

ha ha!, second the big ladder Mark!. I've got one of those plastic folding buckets for carrying water when you go camping..about £4 in Millets. Throwlines are a pain in the Arris, but they are indispensable. Every time, before you use it, run it right out and give it a good stretch, it'll take the 'memory' out of it. Also, it your using it on rough ground (eg in the woods) throw of a plastic sheet to stop it tangling on the ground. Right, wheres that ladder......

This is just the first one I could find, I've got one quite similar. Bombproof and just as easy as a cube!

i am almost always a big ladder man when working but i sometimes go climbing with mates from college so hardly want to drag a big ladder out to the woods! lol

 

i will have a look for one of those bait buckets but i think £25 for a cube is just taking the piss

Depends on your perspective, I have 2 faltheimer cubes, 3 zing it lines and 4 harrison rockets. My throwline is a daily tool so I want the best to make my life easier and less frustrating.

 

The cheapest alternative would be a simple small tarp availible from most diy outlets, it gives a clean surface to throw from and flak onto, you can then just fold the tarp up and stuff it into your bag.

if you can get hold of a sainsbury's bag for life, one of the foldable ones that pop together then they work well on the cheap. they even fold out so the line runs smooth and you get lots of funny looks from customers and co-workers!
