Epic days milling western red cedar

Hi All, been reading posts on an off for a long time now, so today I took time and became a member, I run a LT15 mill from my small holding, mainly cutting bespoke timbers for sale, Douglas, larch ect al so red cedar for my own hive making business, im based nr Aberystwyth west Wales, Im always on the lookout for red cedar saw logs of a good quality and size, so if any help out there would be much appreciated:001_smile:

Back on the cedar again. This time have a new machine (frame saw) coming so will speed up the production of finished planks.

 

About 80 tonnes cut so far, topped and tailed (logs have firewood slab removed top and bottom and any 25mm boards to get down to prescribed thickness). Just waiting for the frame saw to come so we can finish planking them and get them out the door!

 

Very good day today. 3 of us on site, cutting from 1000-1730 with 45 minutes for lunch. 70 logs through the mill, average 32cm diameter, 3.8m long. About 18-19 tonnes I make that. The log deck speeds things up no end.

whats a frame saw exactly?

It's a resaw for cutting multiple boards from a cant (a cant being a log with two straight edges).

I was just thinking myself, not done any milling for few weeks now and was thinking i was going to put a post on here just to say i have had an awesome day at the mill, by no means the production quantities of yourself J, it was steady away with the manual mill, and it was playing up a bit but i got some beautiful looking yew and cherry out of the day. I cant wait to have it dry and start using it.
