sorry mark but that is not good practice

it would be better using a bowline

lockjacks work well on a single line so i am told

I'm well aware of the research done on this(can be found on the treeimagineers website i think) and using appropiate karabiners such as rounded profile karabiners are best if you are going to do it this way I also have a karabiner i only use for this purpose, personally i prefer using a karabiner as it is quicker and easier, the force needed to cause a biner to fail in this was is still pretty high.

I don't own a lockjack so wouldn't know :sneaky2:

I used to choke off using a running bowline but lately Ive taken to using an alpine butterfly which I now prefer.I used to single line it using a hitch and a figure 8 but Im a bit of a scardy cat.Now I use a lockjack and a figure 8.It does take longer,But hey no ones complaining.

Saw a chap do this last year ! snapping top out of a pine ! top of tree came back on saw ! trapped saw ! man up tree with no lifeline ! had to spike down tree to get rope to pull top out ! lifes too short ! why cut corners !

Things have moved on a bit then since you used to climb with two lanyards and no rope eh:sneaky2::001_tt2::bootyshake:
