Magpies in Hawthorn

A nest site is a nest site, regardless of the species. When we did our unit 5 training, we were told that a bird sitting in a tree with a twig in its' mouth, classes that tree as an active nest site.

 

I can never work out the general hatred for corvids We wipe out so many small birds with our hedge removal, house building, farming practices etc etc, but somehow by persecuting corvids we make it all better.

 

It can "inconvenience" the working day, but working with and around nature is all part of this work and just needs working around.

take it your not a farmer or small holder... I am sure if you see the magpies pecking at the newborn lambs you would dis like them, but as normal people put there views across not knowing the full impact that certain things have...

Personally I would put mulcher through. If magpie was home , then its a bonus!!!

So you never seen magpies attack lambs and peck at calfs eyes when they born??

Yes it is, so you would be committing an offence if you disturb the nest.

 

Although there is nothing to stop you from shooting the Magpies, then the nest would not be in use and no offence would be committed.

no time for magies see them raid kill small birds + nests. seen 7 attack another in same group and peck it to death! so follow Skyhuck advice.

A few drain rods with a skewer on the end, a nice dimpsey night and a good push = 1 out of use nest lol.

 

Im assuming its in an overlooked area which is why the worry?

I thought it was a Witches broom like you get in the Birch trees, honest. I catapulted one a few years back trying to get some Wrens that were nesting in the Clematis down the garden. If you get one the others come to see what happened. I watched one trying to get into a conifer with collared doves nesting in it and the doves just flew straight into them like battering rams.
