Opinion on this trailer?

Id say with the Ifor (3500kg models) you will struggle to find better in terms of the chassis and drawbar design/strength, however I have found the dropsides to be pretty poor quality to be honest with rivets constantly coming lose and the hinges fairly easy to bend if you are a bit heavy handed. I do quite like the very basic bolt together arrangement though of their trailers and mine has stood up to fairly consistent heavy use over the last 6 years.

Has any one any experience of Nugent or Bateson trailers? I think if/when I renew my trailer I will look at these manufacturers. Good payload is all well and good but it does mean a lighter built trailer which perhaps won't hold up over the long term. There are materials out there now which can be incredibly light AND strong but I guess it comes down to costs as ever.

I got a quote for a basic 16ft Ifor flatbed with steel bed and ramps and didn't have any change from £4000 plus VAT. For that kind of money I could get a turntable type trailer from Germany and I'd much rather do that. The plan is to just keep the trailer for a year whilst the lease on the Navara expires. The Navara will then be replaced with something that can tow 3500kg, at which point the trailer will be replaced with a 3.5t trailer. I can't see myself losing any money at all on the Unsinn trailer and it will give me a good idea as to whether I like the German trailers.

 

I know that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Ifor trailers and I agree that they are ruggedly built (look pretty agricultural, if we're being picky) but I do think that they are very expensive.

4k for a 16ft IW is a bit ott just had a quote of £1800 for a 12 ft flat.

I specced internal lashing points, aluminium bed and ramps. Just checked the Ifor price list and it's come up at £3735 plus VAT for the 16ft 3500kg trailer. I think I was possibly a touch over quoted.

Take no notice of the price list our dealer calls there brochure/price list a comic if you want a decent price on an IW ring Morris's buff ton in Ludlow Shropshire they can't be matched on price.

 

We hat our tipper off them with every extra and all in 5k others had quoted £6200&£5850.

 

The one thing that really gets me is after the first winters use the galv had lost it's shine completely and started to oxidise. It's kept inside when not in use.

 

Will you have to pay import tax on German trailer??

Thanks for the recommendation - it would be good if their national pricing structure was a little more uniform! Still pretty set on trying a German trailer for a bit, but I'm not saying that in a years time when I need a heavier trailer that I won't consider Ifor again.

 

Regarding oxidisation, mine has been much the same. It's 21 months old, always barn stored but looks ancient now due to all the panels and chassis having surface oxidisation. It's annoying when you look after it.

 

No import tax that I am aware of with bringing something back from the EU. I will check though.

No import duty inside the EU. If you're vat reg you don't even have to pay the vat upfront, makes buying from EU countries very attractive IMO.

 

I had noted that about the VAT. Means I'm getting a 14ft x 6ft 6 inch trailer (2600kg MGW - same as the Navara can tow) for £1760.
