It's been perfect from new but has suddenly developed a problem. Worked perfectly on Tuesday but now difficult to start in that it will get ticking over but if you touch the throttle it stalls. Having restarted it multiple times it warms up a bit and get up to half throttle but if any more stalls or goes back to tickover. It's still got a bit of the fuel from Tuesday in it so don't think his is the issue. Meticulously cleaned the air filter and have popped a new fuel filter on but no joy. What next?

Thanks

What age is it?

It sounds a bit like possible fuel line. They tend to crack/split just as it comes out the fuel tank tho its not always very obvious and visible unless you bend the pipe around a bit..

I would also check the impulse line as that can also cause similar issues with not revving etc.

Also the little gauze/mesh filter inside the carb may need cleaning and could be blocked.

That's the first 3 obvious things to check.

The little plate by the handle says 2002 so guess I have had it a while. I am presuming to check the line and boots is going to need some stripping apart? Bare with me as I am not exactly experienced with this sort of issues down to me being a part timer and the saw being so blimmin good, well until now.

2002 version will be the old 45cc version. It has no decomp valve.

Have you had the fuel lines replaced, carb cleaned and a new kit fitted? It's worth replacing the carb boot too.

No it does have the decomp valve. Never replaced anything at the drive end other than the fuel filter and spark plug.

So it's had a replacement cylinder, either the 50cc XP engine or a 353 engine. Either way, I still recommend the refurb of the fuel system and a retune.
