Found this on a medium sized Ash today. the cavity is fairly small, but the bark just pulls off really easily at the base? no signs of mechanical damage from strimmers etc :confused1:

Looks a bit like black fruit bodies of Ustulina (K.deusta) in the second picture. Are they crispy like cinders? If so, get it felled.

 

The start of maybe...does look a little like
