Im currently out of the UK and my car is tucked up at home, on my Parents driveway,

 

Im coming home in May for a bit and i thought it would be nice to have my car to use for a few weeks,

 

I've been looking at one month insurance deals that are offering me cover for on average £30 PER DAY!

 

Bearing in Mind that my annual quote is around £350, are these people insane or are they just joking with me!?

Take out an annual policy then cancel it when finished. Much cheaper.

One day or short term insurance is at a premium, of course - you don't need me to tell you that after what you have just found out!

 

Have you looked in to the cost/benefit of paying the full year premium, then cancelling the insurance after for example 6 weeks use?

 

You will probably have to pay a pro-rata amount for the time used, and probably an early exit fee - but you may find that it is cheaper then running the car on the short term insurance alternative.

Go for an annual policy but look at the small print as to cancellation. This is probably the cheapest. It will still cost more than a month's worth for a month plus an admin charge.

Yea i had a suspicion that might be the way to go, but what a system we have that forces people to try and cheat it!

It's not cheating, it's playing the system to your advantage. Use it!

My point being that perhaps you could just add to existing insurance on the vehicle but I'll understand no reply.

I'm a little confused by the last message Nepia.

 

The OP says its on his parents drive - tucked up. I assume not being driven.

 

Your link clearly says if its SORN and off road, you don't need insurance. If you use it on the road or in public - you do need it.

 

Have you mis-read something or are you assuming that his parents are using it or its not on SORN right now?

If you buy insurance online you can cancel within 7 days and only pay pro rata with no cancellation fees. If you only need a couple of weeks cover, that might be an option to do that 2 or 3 times.

Cancelled a van insurance policy after 2-3 weeks in £110 cancelation fee! Crazy.
