the bloke says that he uses it for soil sampling so low mileage, but i bet the low box and diffs need a look at as well as the freewheeling hubs due to being used off road. he also says that the garage used it as their works hack so probably got overloaded. But then again it might be a nice little motor.

yes they do hold there price but people like to hold onto them, coz they are good i supose, i think they are prob the next best thing to a landy? a poor mans landy lol

At the risk of opening up a debate, which is NOT my intention, i dont think they are a 'poor mans landy'. They arent cheap new, and hold their price very well. They are a different machine really. I like to think of the defender as a tractor which has some body panels and electrical bits attached to it for road usability, and always saw my hi-lux as a very capable, ultra reliable, 4x4 car/ pick-up. You should be able to find a very smart and good hi-lux for your budget, which ought to last you some time really. Better than any ford ranger any day, and (sorry john) better than an l200 really. Only my opinion tho.:001_smile:

ps tommer how many miles is has your landy got?

The speedo reads 990107 the other day, but that really is irrelevant except for the chassis, intercooler, wings and axle casings. Everything else is sub 2 yrs old, engine has done 32000, gearbox about 50000, and transfer about 10000 miles.:001_smile:

the thing is with hilux's is you cant kill them, you can bash then, crash them and treat them like a tractor aswell, it will look knackered but still keep going, top gear proved that to joe public but we knew it already, i had a jacked up hilux tiger, it was a thailand import crew cab, jacked right up with huge tyres, roll bars and front and back winches, its only let down was its 3litre diesel engine, it was really torquey for off roading but crap on the road, 50mph max on the flat..i loved it for but when the babies come along the toys have to go

LOL! I had a 1994 Hilux 2.4D s/cab followed by a 2003 Hilux d/cab D4D; current L200 was better than both imo!
