Spindle moulder advice

the blades are probably directional, so if you get a forward and reverse spindle it is not a problem. (the one i'm selling is ;-D )

that is possibly one more thing to look out for, forward and reverse was handy for me before i got the 4 sider when running T&G boards out i could run on side on, and from the opposite side run the stock back through with the other profile in reverse rotation, it saves moving the stock back to the other side of the spindle again.

Looks great James.

 

SCM is good solid pro gear and a power feed is such a boon for a quality cut and handling larger sections. Only thing missing is a sliding carriage which would be handy if you want to do tenons.

Yeah i was thinking a sliding carriage would be good, got to do quite a large oak floor and thought it would be nice to t and g the end grain to save on offcuts. If it stays cheap ill be tempted though

Looks like it might have tapped holes on the front allowing you to fit a rail and make a tennoning jig/sliding table. Looks a bloody good machine for the price it is at the moment. Buy new drive belts if you get it. If the main bearing is that tired then I would suspect the belts will be too.

We all go on about how important it is to have our chainsaw certs but think nothing of buying a woodworking machine without any formal training.

 

Spindle moulders are the most dangerous woodworking machine on the market.

If the cutter comes out of the machine it will do it without warning, it won't stop as it passes through you nor the side of a wooden building, we had one fly out when I was in college, it didn't stop until it was embedded in a 9" block wall.

 

If you're not professionaly trained to use these machines please consider getting a company who is set up for this type of work to do it.
