I hire a tw230 and like it a lot! It is super fast and munches anything that will fit through the opening!

 

I don't own or maintain it, so cannot comment on that side of things, but the grease nipples are all banked together which should help things.

 

My only criticisms are the hopper seems higher than on the tw150, so loading heavy long stems can be a bit more difficult. The taper of the hopper changes just before the infeed, and I find branches don't find their way in so easily as with the 150, although the letter box design is better than the square.

 

Final issue is the quality of the hitch/jockey/handbrake is not what I would expect on a machine of this value, perhaps this is the French version?

Ive upgraded my 150 to the 230 far far better machine. The lads would cry if I gave even a new 150 again

to be fair the 150 was a cracking chipper 15yrs ago, things moved on it didnt ,

We had a demo back in January of the TW230.

TBH, if I was up against a Quadchip and a TW230 today it would be a hard choice and one I might base on aftersales service alone.

Same fragile hitch as Quadchip I noted, not a fan of that.

Turntable operation felt less refined on the TW.

I liked the eager feed rate and fine chip quality.

Quadchip I'm running the disc blades which IF the El Cheapo subbies refrain from shoving shoite through seem to outlast the square blades but at a cost of chip size/quality.

I'd buy a TW230 but only a mug would rent one here at the prices the French rental agencies ask.

It seems to me that the whole jockey wheel / hitch thing is due to keeping it under 750kg and as such must be tolerated.

I've been keeping a close eye on this thread as they've been around a little while now, there's been no real complaints from owners. Got to be a good sign.

Had the use of a 230 twice now, really liked it from blade change to throttle handle position would go for tracked version however it long waiting list.

I think you may be getting the TW240TDHB(t) mixed up with the TW230DHB, the TW240 is a turntable sub 750kg machine which does have a pressed steel light weight hitch. The TW230 is a 750kg in-line trailed chipper with the 35hp Kubota engine, this chipper is to replace the TW150 and has some excelent features including the same lockable, cast hitch as the TW190, double sided blades, LED lights, remote centralised greasing for the main rotor, and feed roller bearings, 66kg flywheel and a class leading 6" x 9" in-feed.
