Hi,

I want to gain my PTS but I am not working on the railways at the moment.

Just seeing if it is compulsory for people to have sponsors or is there a way around this?

Thanks!

You can get the qualification by having training and assessment at your own expense but you won't be able to work without a sponsor. As the competencies need renewing every three years with medicals it's not worth doing independently IMO.

All the vegetation companies are competing for workers so they expect to provide training but may expect to be repaid if you leave.

Yes, time flies as you get older. My medicals and re assessments coincide now and I thought my IWA was last done in Dec 13 so I did a quick barcode scan to check.

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!

Rail works sucks big time!!!!!IMO.

Depends what your doing...

We just do DDDs and pays 5 times what I used to get at Glendale.. no conny bashing or dealing with clients trying to knock price down...

All depends what you want I suppose

My PTS run out years ago, I'm on LUL now but I'm sure you will need a rail medical before you can book on to a PTS but like already said most firms will sort this out for you FOC if you already hold chainsaw / strimmer certs

Try looking on railwaypeople.com for job offers or if you know of any local firms give them ring

Best of luck

Just be careful I paid for my pts course and digs on the back of being told I would have work after getting my ticket. It ran out last month and cost me a fair bit of money and I'm still to do a day trackside
