Often the problem with a silky in tip work is that the saw digs in and the brench bends, you end up having to saw without rhythm which is a bit like patting your head whilst rubbing your stomach.

We are derailing Mikes thread with this!

The importance of silky tip work is using both hands one to steady the branch the other to make an accurate clean cut.

Which takes us back to the balance issue, I said If I was using one hand for balance I would one hand a topper. If there is no balance issue then of course two hands is fine, either with a chainsaw or silky:001_smile:

If we are going to pick faults in Mikes work, why not mention the use of the incorrect pulley for topping down and the amount of slack it is attached by.

I also would have de-limbed while spiking up.

Nice vid though:001_cool:

I had noticed it looked like a swing cheek pulley but couldn't say for sure. As for the slack there are some who would say slack is a good thing as it gives a bit of shock absorbtion before the intial run, there is also some who would say a foot makes little difference. Its not how i do it but after reading briefly the isa guide to rigging the distance between the tie of point and rigging pulley doesn't play a huge part unless there is a huge difference.
