  15. I did the same course as you when I went to Otley last year. How long until you finish college? You should give BTS a try mate they do railways, its not the best place to learn the quality of work you'd normally need to provide but its a good place to get experience in the industry.

I have looked at work for free accomodation which looks awesome, I need to pay $20 for membership but thats not to bad.. im going to look into fruit picking today
  17. Thanks for the replies guys, really helped a lot! I have applied for those two companies that are looking for staff, and tomorrow afternoon if I have had no reply I will try calling. If all fails ill go fruit picking atleast ill still come back with a tan!
  18. Dear Dereck,

I come from the United Kingdom in a place called Newmarket near Cambridge. A few months ago I decided I wanted to travel to New Zealand, so now I have been here three weeks. I am living on Anzac Avenue in central Auckland.

I am a fully qualified Tree Surgeon and have over three years experience. I have worked for Shire Tree Surgery, Eastern Landscapes (this is a tree company not a landscaping company) and D.M Trees. I went to Otley College where I achieved my areal rescue, climbing from a rope and harness, using a chainsaw in a tree, cross cutting, tree felling and my level two in Arboriculture.

I have a lot of experience with chainsaws, lowering, and general grounding work. I have climbed a fair bit in the past but this is not my area of competence. I was wondering whether you had any work available or maybe you would be able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks a lot for your time Derek,

    Kind Regards,

  19. Hi guys, I am a Tree Surgeon in the UK working for Shire Tree Surgery (well I was) then I decided to go travelling to New Zealand for 6 months, this is my fourth week in NZ and I cant find a job anywhere! I have even applied for jobs that do not involve tree work lol I am possibly going to have to come home if I dont find something fast as it is so expensive in Auckland.. My question is, is there another website the same as Arbtalk.com that is used in New Zealand? Thanks, Karl
  20. Im 21 and do smoke, but on breaks, i'd say 60/70% of Tree Surgeons are smokers, theres just a time and a place
  21. £45 a day i'd say, going up with age and experience.
