i know, but the 2 are working as a team, mike obviously knows his guys skill level, i know if i am working with my mate i could shock drop a mini with an old climbing line and i would be fine but other new lads i would rather cut n chuck with because it isnt worth the hassle rigging with amateurs. and if i get one of reg's gadgets then there will be a few trees getting halved i can tell you:001_cool:

Dean,

"letting it run" should be where the section is being slowly decelerated.

If it is falling it is accelerating:scared1:

A good groundie can not change Newtons laws of motion

All I'm getting at is there shouldn't be a shock load..

If you had the distance you could slow a thousand ton weight to a stop from a thousand mph with only one ounce more.

Slack in a rope means nothing unless it's locked off

Dean, you are correct, however.

If the section has accelerated you are now stopping a greater force. The size of section that we work with it will still be ok.

But why increase the forces? When tying the hardware correctly will keep everything to a minimum. It is not hard to do it right - no greater effort!

Skyhuck- who mentioned the NPTC?

I can appreciate that GCSE physics is beyond you but that is why laws of motion are not taught on CS41. But the safest ways to do the job are.

Try reading the rigging research on the HSE web site.
