Leaning pop felling

Can anybody explain this Felling Technique.

I think that cut may have been used for a back leaning tree that is being winched. When the top is compromised due to dead you my not be able to get the pull line high enough.

 

I have used that cut or similar (taught by and old school very experienced cutter) you don't need to have the winch line up too high so the back cut comes in below the bottom f the face. The lip stops the winch pulling the tree of the stump and losing it backwards.
