If it's leaning in the right direction you don't need directional control, it's not directional felling as such, you are aiming to release the tree to its lean as safely as possible.

 

Don't leave too thick a hinge, it may barber chair. Other than that, as Tom says assess every tree on its own merits.

 

Here's a particularly ugly customer I dispatched last year.

Got the big bugger :thumbup1: forgot how wide it actually was...rot was not too bad inside. lucky for me it left enough meat for a nice wide hinge. you could feel the ground rumble when it hit :thumbup:

Them BLack readymix mortar tubs always come in use for logs and loading onto a truck .

We were waiting nearly 2 hour while they cleared roof trusses, concrete lintles, wooden stair cases and tubs of gobbo! "oh yeah it will all be clear for you" typical building site! got a hiab coming tomorrow to take all the heavy away :thumbup:
