OK Stubby......will listen out, usually that first 'cough' on choke is very audible so I don't think I'm missing it, (realise it won't run on choke)....usually a couple of pulls on choke, cough, turn on then first pull she fires then back off half throttle...good to go. It's never been any different until these last few starts, find it a bit strange as the Stihl never failed to start, not one flood ever regardless of time left standing.

Oh . Ok if something has suddenly changed then may be there is a problem . The weather is warmer ( here at least ) and that has only just happened . Could be it needs retuning now that a few tankfulls have gone through ,could be a carb problem ...too much fuel could be the metering arm set wrong ....

I will see what happens over the next few starts and report back, never tuned a chainsaw so that'll be interesting............I have learned calling it an effing barsteward and threatening to whack it with a branch does little to help the situation, which is something.

Had a new spare spark plug in the cupboard so changed it over and things seem to be back to normal (for now at least)......let the saw fully cool, choke, cough on first pull, turn on..fires straight away and runs/idles normally.

OK . What color was the plug you took out ? If it was a sorta tan color then its fine . If it was black and sooty/oily it is running rich . Grey/white its running lean .

Like my old moped/250X7 spark plug tests of yesteryear, damn...I miss those old strokers. Looks like it is running a little rich I'd say.

250 X7.......that takes me back:thumbup:

I loved that bike...........I really was (in my mind) king of the road :001_smile:, I would get up at 6.30 just to go for a ride for an hour or so before work! It was one of those times in my life I'll never forget, very fond memories.

Same here - just fill her up and go for a ride on a warm summer evening, eyeing up the tottie heading for the local pubs and giving it a good fistful on the lanes:thumbup: Happy days!
