S/H value of Stihl MS181?

Any ideas on value of this saw I am selling? Approx 3-4 years old, as new condition standard 14" Stihl bar, 2 Stihl chains (one near enough new), tools, manual, chain cover etc. New unused 14" powersharp chain/bar jobbie.

Just having a friendly argument reference value, I thought it would be worth in the region of £175 including the new chain kit, (value £45).

Too much or about right?

My own valuation on power tools is that once owned and used even slightly they're generally worth no more than 60% of a new one, for the reasons already stated, (brand spanker, warranty, dealer support, known to be perfect condition/not stolen etc etc).

Personally I wouldn't pay more than about £80-90 for it, regardless of your recent expenditure on the new bar. If you've got the receipt for the new parts I'd take them back and sell the MS as is.

It's a bit like having a full service and new tyres and brakes put on a car your selling, you won't see that money back in added value, ever.

Good luck anyway, might be worth speaking to Harrythecat as I believe he's an ebay purveyor of all things gardeny.

P.s you wont be disappointed with the DCs5121, I promise! :thumbup1:

Put it on ebay and see what it makes, that's what it's worth. Have you owned it from new, 3 to 4 sounds a bit vague ? Sell it with the original bar setup and sell the powersharp kit separate would probably get you a bit more money. £120 would be my guess for the saw if it's very clean.

Thanks guys, a bit high then......I was thinking the saw in 'as new' condition approx' £130-140 without the new chain/bar, (had in mind they were about £220 new). I really can't work out if I have owned it 3 or 4 years, either way it's not been abused, it's honest, low hours and cleans up like new. Seen a few on e bay for the £130-150 mark that look really ratty. Thinking on I may well be able to send the new chain/bar kit back for a refund TW....I am looking forward to the 5121, will report back.

Keep it, you'll regret selling it.

If you bought it new, it'll always be new to you. Even you drain the petrol and set it up on a shelf for now some day there'll be a job for it and you'll have it there. Even you get a ton for it selling it, in a few weeks the money will be gobbled up by modern life whereas the other way you'll always have a spare saw sitting, a saw that you know and can depend on.

Give it some thought at least. :001_smile:
