How many people are trimming Conifers now? We've had several requests to trim conifers, some tight ornamental shrubs, some large hedges. We always advise people to leave them alone for now until around April at least, even then frost is likely. We've seen other local tree companies trimming them and have been surprised, maybe it's just me but even with work being a little slower I'm still resisting touching them. Thoughts anyone?

I would personally get on with it. Never managed to hurt a conifer with it being cold and they are going to be full of pigeon nests until about September.

Avoiding as you do till it warms up, worked hard before November to get them all done before the cold got here. Have one to reduce and trim sides but leaving that for warmer times too and client is more than happy to wait.

I've done it all year whatever the weather, frost, snow whatever. never had them die back.

Old wives tale imo

Agree:thumbup1: Maybe serious frosts minus 5 and below may harm them after recent cutting??

Got a couple of conifer reductions lined up & although theirs some cold frosty nights both presently and coming then i'm going to give them the "hurry up" as ive already spotted blackbirds & habitual woodys checking out "des res" spots as the days solar heat slowly builds stirring nature more.

10 years + and I have never managed to kill a Conifer by cutting it in Winter. You can't win at the moment I have been told it's the wrong time a of year to cut any tree. Next I will be told spring is the best time for reductions?
