We have squirrel damage on our hornbeams in the garden. Mostly its on the crotches. I have a vague memory reading that the crotch has slightly more sugars in it or something but can't remember properly.

Vermin control required, Kania type traps recommended - they kill quickly and efficiently. You will have to wait a long time to see the benefits.

A decent landowner would have already been having this done. Interesting to see what happens when you don't.

Indeed. Parenchyma in wood can create new cambium, if the gnawing stops long enough. So a repellent is not out of the question. ;)

 

Cockatoos on eucs also go to forks; sweeter.
