Permit for collecting firewood

Does the forestery commission do a permit for collecting blowed down trees for firewood if so how do I go about getting one? And what is the cost and how long does it last?

not any more where I am at least and I suspect the same is true over England. You'll need FISA update/ recent chainsaw training, Public Liability Insurance, First aid cert before you go and cut anything up on FC land thesedays. You'll also need a mate as lone working with a saw is banned.

 

The price of cordwood as it has been the FC locally here gather up any fallen wood into parcels from 2m3 to a lorryload and sell it through e-sales on the web.

That is what I was expecting to here,

 

I could collect a 2m3 in my trailer but i would need either a crane or winch for a ifor Williams trailer is there anyone on here fitted one please add a photo if you have

I have a permit from MOD for collecting dead wood but for all the above reasons I can only use hand tools which is quite restricting at times. Is there any army training estate near you

The only base up here would have been RAF Edzell but that closed down a few years ago

The West Midlands forestry commission don't issue permits (previously called gleaning licences) for fallen timber any more. Apparently it's due to health and safety. However, a friend in the Forest of Dean recently bought one for about £50, and I think it lasts for 3 years or so. There is a limit on what you can pick up and take away - 3" max diameter, and no more than 3 feet in length. No cutting tools and no trollies. Seems a bit pointless really.

Really there cutting 76 acres behind me and what they have left as waste is truly awful tops 6 inch down just left lots of it everywhere

No they have habitat piles all over the place

 

Starting with about a gazillion ton of chestnut.

 

It's economics Jon getting the mill grade stuff out ASAP

 

They went through 3 years ago took all the big oak out and sold it to Vastons then put a new licence in to fell everything but the big stuff in

 

Put it simply they have taken the lot FC is a joke

Can't name them but know someone who still collects mon-saleable deadwood from FC land. As he has an unofficial FC contact, a big bunch of keys, relevant common sense, a chainsaw and trailer. Living a 1/2 mile from an access point helps, as does knowing when there's going to be no FC personnel/officialdom present.
