Transit crew cab problem

Also not everyone needs to comply. It does not affect councils hospitals utilities etc. It came about when the idiot in a landrover towed for 14 hrs without a break fell asleep and drove into a train killing loads of people. If you tow a chipper within a certain distance of your base you may be exempt ( but dont take my word for it)

Not everyone tows.

however when i got my transit tipper brand new 12 months ago it came strait to me with factory fitted tipper and tow hitch with no tacho , further to this how is any commercial 3.5 ton tipper allowed to be fitted with a tow hitch if there is no tacho fitted ?? im not having a go at any one on here by the way . i was made aware about the stop and start rule , ie if you are only driving the vehicle and trailer to site where you will be working for the rest of the workind day then there is no need for a tacho ! i personally think the manufacturer of the vehicle or the fitter of the tow hitch should be held accountable to a certian extent , also how does this aply to hire vehicles ??:confused1:

Twin cab there's absolutely no choice. Kits stays dry, locked, out of sight (if blank windows in rear) and great for working the council estates. Can even opt to take out rear seats and bolt your van vault (outback) to the van using lockable loops so you can remove easily with key. I prefer less weight so I went against the van vault so I have to empty van daily. Make sure your engine can pull a full load & chipper. Ford Transits are amazing vehicles but are a swine pulling loads + chipper up hills. Tweek that fuel pump.

You wont get many replies as the thread is not on this topic. If no one is bothered about complying then its up to them but its useful to know its out there. I dont think vosa are interested in a local man going about his business. If you had 3.5 tonne of trailer 300 miles from home and you were seen nodding at the wheel I think you would get pulled over.

Nothing personal, but the legal technicalities are all laid out on the vosa website. If you or anyone else wants to know what the rules are you should download and read them rather than relying on what your mate down the pub or some bloke on an internet forum said. And thats all i'm going to say. :001_smile:

Went on the weight bridge today for my specific truck which now has custom chipbox 10ft ally body its obviously a crewcab also climbing gear and usual tools per day. Plus 85kgs of me.

with no load on it was exactly 2500kgs unlaiden.

Which means it can carry 1 tonne hope this helps other crewcab drivers.

And most normal tippers are 2350kgs ally maybe 2200kgs
