When I was out in NZ we used to set up work/ comp climbs round the tree and just take turns getting round it.. People who wanted to be timed got timed and if you just wanted to have a jolly and do it in your own time you did. It will soon get your speed up and it's fun, we even had a 17 stone unit groundy up there doing the works climb which was awesome to watch. then after we drink beer... :)

Well then you've set your price.

:laugh1: You've missed the point completely doing a days work for free shows your potential employer that you'll do as much as you can gain employment

If you really don't get it, it's pointless explaining.

You hit the nail on the head Arran. Make a fun experience out of it. Comp/work climbs are competitive but at the same time don't pressurise people who are just there to gain experience...It all builds confidence.Speed or Balls doesn't necessarily make a great climber....CONFIDENCE DOES!

That sounds good, we will have to sort it out some time. Could see if any one else is up for it. Rugby is just down the a5 for me.

I'm near rugby too if you want to hook up for a rec climb. My advise, like others is climb, best way to build up ability is with confidence, Find a nice already beech, doesn't ha e to be huge, just something with a wide canopy, like ladders to climb. Climb around the whole tree, practice redirects ect

Please explain, because I'd rather do a days work for free get experience than sit on my arse in the house doing nothing
