Lighting: your opinion needed

Having spent most of the day altering wiring on the house and outbuildings so I can put up more lighting, I wondered what your opinion is on this.

My plan was to put all the lights on a photocell so everything comes on as it gets dark and off when it gets light, but my girlfriend seems to think all that will do is just make life easier for intruders to see what they are doing, I can see her point as when the light outside our room comes on it wakes us up, but I think having them on will deter and also if I link it with some alarm sensors at least the whole place will be lit up already when I go outside.

What do others think ?

Think I agree with Billy there, have you got any neighbours that might complain about the light tho?

a few good sensors and a light switch by the back door, for when you go running out the house in only your boxers, baseball bat in hand for the burglars, would solve it otherwise.

on the other hand if your targeted a light on would help them if they know your not about...

We have had a compromise, the house will be lit up all night along with the yard nearest the house, and the rest will be left dark.

I will use another method instead of pir's to activate the other lights, too many problems with cats setting them off, that and cctv should help me sleep :)
