In my experience dead trees and large logs can stay moist inside for a long time. I cut a macrocarpa log that had been windblown for 5 years and youd of thought it was felled last week. It could be dry, but dont bank on it. Price it as if you have to biff it, then if its dry its a bonus.

Is it dead standing or has it been down for sometime ? I find dead standing elm to be burnable within a week or two . Also 7thdevil might tell you to mill it !

Dead Elm, where the bark has gone, is snuff dry and instantly burnable.

Ginko burns very quickly it makes better kindling than it does firewood.

Wood carvers are always very keen to have it even if it is fairly small diameter pieces. Wood turners are not usually interested as even when dried it is still easily deeply marked with just a fingernail. Some millers like it as it dries without warping or splitting but the fact it is so soft limits its uses.
