Land Rover

So I'm looking for some advice.

I'm currently using my 1989 f reg 110 v8 petrol van as my 'tool box'. Trouble is the difference in fuel consumption between this and a diesel means a nearly new diesel would pay for it's own finance on fuel saving alone so that leaves me with a tidy 110 van, that for occasional and site use is ideal.

I have already got a tipper truck so I don't really need to go down that route.

So any ideas (however wacky) would be appreciated. By the way it's an ex utility, air brakes set up for trailer, heavy duty chassis and springs with Salisbury axles on the front as well as the rear and it's rust free even in the doors so it's defo worth keeping instead of taking the £1700 trade in offer

Thanks in advance :)

Good idea but, I'm really opposed to engine conversions. Especially v8 to diesel.

Several reasons, the v8 gearbox won't mate up to the 4cyl so it's a box change as well, the props are different, as are the fuel senders and fuel lines, bulkhead is different. The seat box and floor all need changing along with a endless list of other stuff from chassis engine mounts to power steering pipes because the engines use different pumps and the unions are different. Exhaust, radiatoretc etc etc.

to do it properly I'd be looking at £2k to put a tdi in and the base engine would be at least 15 years old (later 300tdi) and possibly upto 25years old for a 200 out of an early 90's land rover.

Really looking to Modify the back!!! :)

Ok, so having put some thought into this I may have come up with a cunning plan. This Land Rover owes me literally nothing, in fact you could say I owe it everything because I started up with this Landy and very little else!!!!

If I just swapped the hard top for a truck cab, added some greedy boards so in an emergency it could be chipped into, kept it in the big building trickle charging off a 12v solar panel I would always have a "back up". I'm not as big as some of the guys on here and do tend to rely solely on 1 transit tipper and "my" landrover.

So..... Let's say taking into account road tax at £265 p/a insurance at £290 p/a and an mot at £60 p/a. Ad £400 for a basic oils and filters service once a year Works out at just shy of £85 per month.

£85 per month to never be stuck?? Seems easy or have I missed something??
