Just looking for a rough guide on erecting a post and rail fence, four rails, posts at every 1.8 metres, with a wooden gate installed what kind of price should I be looking at per metre, it's for horsey folk, with a general rule of thumb add an extra zero for them!

I would agree with £200 as a minimum to supply and fit a 10ft gate with 2x posts and relevant adjustable hangings etc. the materials alone would come to about £120 so you certainly want a bit on top by the time u've sunk hanging/shutting posts and got it all hanging nicely.

Post and rail- are you proposing to drive the posts or dig them in, also I assume you mean using sawn 5x3s as posts- not the more agricultural/cheaper round stakes?

I had a quoter from a contractor to supply and erect post and rail only two rails and he wanted 2700 pound sor 160m run worked out about 17pound a meter I though ouch and that was using 4inch round stakes I was thinking more about 10pound a meter

Using round posts, the customer prefers them I actually prefer the look of them with round too.

I will be driving posts in with a chapper,

I have to say that it seems far more per metre than I thought, all the materials are being bought together with other fencing materials so would just be the Labour,
