I never use a file guide, just round file with a bit of branch off cut as a handle.

 

I never use a vice, just put saw on something like the chipper hopper or the top of a butt, lean on the body of the saw sharpen left hand cutters right handed then do right hand cutters left handed.

 

Never sharpen saws at home, only ever on site.

 

Each to there own, no right way or wrong way, IMO.

i cant sharpen with my left hand, tried loads but just cant, so i never get one side as good as the other, even if i take an extra couple of strokes off it to even it up, as i dont have the same presure on the pull cord side.
