If you get a full width tail ramp on your trailer there's no need to take it off.

Yeah we have got a full width ramp but the problem we have is the trailer sits a bit high and the guys don't like chipping with it on the trailer. Some times we might do three jobs in a day for the local council so it can be a bit of a faff to load and unload each time

So it has being decided then...tracked chipper it is! but now the question is what vehicle to tow it??? transit just will not cut it! i have actually got an operators licence but have never registered a vehicle on it so owt over 3.5t is no issue.

why won,t transit tow it?? they,re aren't really that heavy circa 1200kg plus a 600kg trailer, surely a transit will cope fine with 1.8t. Or what about an Isuzu grafter?

Landy- I tow a 2.8t digger with mine (3500kg by the time its on the trailer) plus 500kg of attachments in the pickup bed- does it but not easily!

Trailer = 550kg

Chipper 1335kg

Towing capacity of van 2.250 kg

So in theory yes it will tow it but in reality its a 2004 transit 90bhp! by the time i have got a wheelbarrow full of logs on board men & tools in will deffo be overloaded and i honestly think it would kill the van. Are them grafters 3.5t? i really like canters or them 6.5t ivecos look decent, its just more expense as usual.

Yeah the grafters are 3.5ton, but if you get the wide cab like the one in the pic then essentially it is a 5 ton downrated truck. Has a 3.5 ton towing capacity and pulls the tracked and trailer like a train. Have had the tracked and trailer which weigh around 2ton plus say 3 ton on the back (obviously not on the public highway) and the truck still pulls well. The grafters are well geared for towing
