New 390 xp problem

Evening folks.

 

Was a tad excited yesterday getting home from work to find a shiny new 390.

But the bleddy thing wouldn't start..

 

Cold start, choke in decomp pulled 5 or 6 times and didn't fire! Took the plug out and it was drenched so dried it off tried it again, to no avail. cleaned the plug again and Left it for an hour.. This time it fired after 3 pulls and got going. Did a very small amount of cutting then switched it off, abit later on tried it again it was flooded after 4 pulls!!

 

The chain is creeping a fair amount and also came in a 560xp box.

 

Help would be very much appreciated..

Until it's broken in, I would avoid the decomp on cold starts. It also makes it easier to hear the 'pop'. And pull it like you mean it. Starting it slow and lazy with the decomp on will flood a lot of saws. Remove the spark screen from the exhaust outlet if there is one.

I got it to fire when I held the throttle open cold start with no choke, But that really isnt what you should have to do for a 'brand new saw' isit?

Strait back to the dealer with it . I have a 390 and it was never hard to start from brand new .

I recently bought a 395 picked it up on a Saturday evening, Sunday it would not bloody start, they were shut Monday so Tuesday afternoon after work I took it out of the workshop ready to take it back, thought I'd try it and with a few pulls it went!

It's ok now. Maybe it's an auto tune thing.

Nope. you flooded it, saturated the plug and it stopped sparking, you left the saw, the plug dried out and it started when tried again a day later.

 

I would say that it probably felt a bit rich and smokey for 10 seconds after starting but soon cleared:thumbup1:

 

If a saw won't easily start, don't use the decomp until it has been bedded in, when the piston is bedded, the compression will go up and the decomp can be used. Personally, I don't tend to use the decomp unless the saw is a biggie and has really big compression.

 

The usual way of clearing flooding is to remove the plug, switch the ignition off, turn the saw upside down and pull it over fast 5 times. This clears the build up of fuel in the lower crankcase and blows it out of the plug hole!

 

Warm the plug on a gas stove or plumbers torch and replace it, put the saw on fast idle and pull it over with gusto. If it won't pop, try the choke as on a normal cold start but no more than 3-5 pulls on full choke. This will work 90% of the time:thumbup:

Started it earlier with no decomp with ease.

 

So is it normal for a brand new bigger saw to not like the decomp valve open when starting from cold? All I'm thinking is that its abit odd how its brand new and the operators manual would tell you to use the decomp..
