The 1.1mm (.43) Oregon chain is hopeless, I had three and they all lost their teeth in quick succession.

Stihl 1.1mm chain on the other hand is fine even up to MS250 power levels. Then the bar tends to be the weak point.

Totally agree with this, tried several different 1.1 chains and the only one I was ever happy with was the stihl, tried a Carlton once and I mean once, binned it after the first couple of cuts the vibration was that bad!

i have stuck a 12'' 1/4 picco on an ms170 with a rollomatic e mini bar on. cuts class, lots easier etc. pretty quickly got blueing on nose end and broke chain after a ma of 3 sharpens. might have been bad luck but felt that the 1/4 P chain really is for tiny saws i.e smaller than 170. saying that i might have been unlucky and it was great while it lasted

That's interesting Bill - why do you think it blued the nose? I've been playing around with it but only an hour or so at the moment so not really had a chance to really test... but bore cutting etc is amazing with no kickback virtually...

I need to work mine a bit more and I think longevity wise you're not going to get many sharpens out of it - teeth are so small but... but really liked the way it performed.

i think it blued the nose probably as i was using it a bit like a carving bar, which its simply too lightly built for, i.e to much heat in nose, it also burred up pretty quick - then the chain broke - all of which lead to me to believe i was asking too much of s £30 bar! i.e its not a tough bar. but the narrow kerf is excellent and a joy to use.

i have now put it with a new chain on an old stihl 010av which has more power but much less rpm ( 39cc, 9500rpm), so i'll let you know how i get on and i'm being aware to try and be gentler with it.

can you get carving bars with 1.1mm yet?

VX. I think there are only 2 options from Oregon; VX and VXL.

I've also seen 91P, 91PX, 91VG (which what my electric saw specifies) and 91VLX, trouble is different sources seem to have different options so it's not clear what the differences actually are between them.
