Climbers are dragged into a massive false sense of security when it comes to things like wire core flip lines! They cut just as well. The only reason I'd say I like them is on a takedown I like the rigidity of them. Everything else normal lanyard.

I certainly have and totally disagree with you.

If you do hit it you will see the shards of molten strands and unless your pushing with an 880 then you would surely notice.

Errrrmmm which would cut easier rope or metal

I've seen wire core cut like it was nothing! Now I've never tried it but Im dam sure I know what I've seen with my own eyes pal!!

How do they melt?

 

I test cut a wire core with an 026 once, one tap was all it took to take out all the wire, no time to notice anything.

 

Don't forget you are cutting strands, thin strands at that, its nothing like hitting a nail

 

The point is that wire core cuts waaaaay easier than people imagine which for some leads to a false sense of security.

How easy it is to cut is somewhat irrelevant - although I agree with the comments about 'false sense of security' etc.... Rope lanyard or wire core flip line - you pays your money you takes your chance, horses for courses, etc, etc, etc....

 

The point of having a rope (in this sense) is not so much to keep you up there, but to provide a method of getting down!
