Not always.

It didn't last year, I'm pretty sure the grass never stopped growing last winter.

Hopefully last year was a freak not to be seen again for many years, I never saw a flake of snow and all the oldies say they have never had a winter without any snow whatsoever

My comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. My point was that my prices have to include all the costs of running a legitimate business e.g. tax, rent, rates, insurance, accountancy fees etc. I think people should charge whatever they like for their logs as long as it's a level playing field. A lot of people seem to think its fine just to do a few cash in hand logs over the winter months.

With regards to pricing i've personally found that a lot of people go by the initial price and they are not too clued up about volume sold.

Therefore i started to sell barrow bags at £35, 800mmx800mm bags at £65. That makes one of your crates worth about £140 in barrow bags or £130 in dumpy bags but the customer initialy sees either £35 or £65 for logs. Hope that makes sense.

I've redesigned my business card. It's my main advertising tool and now it has a Facebook page where I talk woodland management, share stove tips and answer questions.

I agree with this as I'm sure I used to shift more logs when I had a double cab pick up before I got a single as people simply had to part with less money I think. I may even go into nets or barrow bags next year

No matter what happens nature has a habit of redressing the balance. 2010 was heavy snow and very cold for months. Last two winters warm so its even stevens could go either way but I am thinking we will get proper winter.

I say offer a smaller quantity for £30 as well as your crates. Also try having one bag of "opposition quality" to show customers the difference. We sell a cheap quality long reach hedgetrimer at £199 and a Stihl at £564. Guess what always sells once they see the difference
