Chipper Decision??

We run an old Kwikchip 222, which we've had for over 7 years.

It still works fine, surprisingly well actually, but I know advances in design etc has made for better machines.

I have a decision to make, it's at an age/condition where I think it still has some value for me to sell on and use as a deposit for a new machine.....which I have to say I do like the look of the new Forst models.

Or.....

Keep it until it dies I do fully subscribe to the ethos of "If it ain't broke....." but it strikes me as an opportunity to move on, get a better, more efficient machine.

Problem is, I get the feeling that the old girl will go on for ever and I may never see a new machine if I wait for it to break in a terminal way, such is the build quality!!!

Decisions decisions

What have you done in the past, or are you having the same though processes??

we have kept our old TP for 20 years now and although now recently replaced with another TP, I would consider you better keeping the one you have, ''it still works fine'' you know its workings and I guess not over complicated with modern day electronics, and its run in! ''if it aint broke'' you said it yourself, '' it works surprisingly well'' you may even be disappointed with a new investment,

Rather then sell it keep it and get a new one! If it works and you know its history you might only get a couple of grand for it. Having a back up machine is always handy.. Also makes expanding the business easier..

I would consider that from a financial point of view now is a good time to invest.

interest rates are relatively low but about to go up, one way of looking at it is - if you weren't to trade up to a newer machine would this one get you through the next economic down turn when it may be more crippling to 'have to' purchase.

if you can the ideal would be to moth ball it as a second machine and invest in a new one - plays it safe but admittedly an expensive way of doing things..

I got a demo on the forst st6 yesterday, can honestly say its a great bit of kit, The size of the bits i forst into it were impressive and didn't have 1 bit spin on the rollers. Iv got a demo with the new TW230 in two weeks time so il keep you posted. But at the moment there are some GREAT deals if you ask for it from the dealers. Im at the stage of getting our first new decent machine. and the two iv pulled it down to are forst or tw and both makes our older stuff look so much hard work haha
