I want more power from my Mog 1200

for those that arent aware of the ins and outs of the mog engines, there are basically 2 engines, in various guises fitted, OM 352, and OM366, these are the early and latter models, they go from normally aspirated, through turbo, to turbo intercooled, from 100hp, to 250+hp the differences in power come from the pump and injector types and settings, and slight variations in the cams. there are very few differences across the engines internals(352 and 366 obviously different, but some parts are interchangeable) so if your engine is in good codition, applying the settings for a more powerfull version, along with the bits to suit, will not cause any problems. In fact the german tuners are pushing in excess of 300hp from the humble OM 352 motor,.......

try that through a chipper then

I would urge you not to go down the route of the well known firm offering a power upgrade by means of intercooler and prayed fuel pump , Mercedes didn't offer this as a standard option for a very very good reason , if your u1200 is not man enough then get a bigger more suitable mog , I have recently been speaking to Alex Price about getting more power from my u1600 but have decided to get a newer u1600 with a more efficient euro 5 engine with more bottom end grunt and of course a few extra toys fitted as well . I would highly recommend A.C Price

Were they still building the 1600 when the euro 5 engine came out??

Would you not be better with a 200hp 1600, I think most have a euro 2 engine.

I was chatting to Alex a few weeks ago and I'm fairly sure that he had said there was a euro five engine in a u1600 , I may be wrong though . It again as you said a 200 hp euro two u1600 is still better than the 160hp we run at the moment although we are looking to mount a hiab on the back and front mount a schliesing so there is question whether or not a bigger mog with more hp would be better again

every mog built is to a specific order, why order a euro 5 engine for a country where a euro 2 will suffice, mogs are sized by engine hp and chassis size, U1000, 1200, 1500 are the smaller chassis, U1300, 1600,1700, and 2100 are the large chassis, the U1000 is the only non turbo version, there are long chassis, and specials throughout the range, likewise transmission options, there is no such thing as a standard unimog, every machine comes with a data card specing its build, this is selected from a book currently running at over 150 pages. as for tuning, the only folk to speak to are Helgeth in germany, they build unimogs to race, not saying AC price dont know what there doing, they are unimog specialists, but do they win races with what they build, and the OM352 and OM366 engines are fitted in an awfull lot of other mercedes vehicles putting out some serious HP, (especially in some of the marine applications) and as for a U1600 with a euro 5, never built in a mercedes factory, anything newer than euro 3... was a U3000 or bigger, or U300 or bigger, do your research on the history of the beasts, I've worked with them for over 30 years now and still come across oddities that werent on the std options and built to special orderd, agri versions being the worst

Thats incorrect, the u1500 has the larger chassis and the u1600 has the smaller chassis (but with stiffening plates fitted to the chassis rails)

Generally the even numbers are small chassis, odd numbers are large chassis.

nice one skyhuck ,my error the 1500 is the large chassis, the first in the 425-xxx designations, the 1600 is the two piece axle weirdo in the small chassis, larger capacity(10 k as oppossed to 7.5k on the 424-xxx models) just that U1500 and U1600 mogs dont pop up to frequently, usual jump from U1200 to U1700 (most U1300's that appear are ex military, and thats a whole different can of worms) I becomes a whole lot simpler to use mercedes numbering system, i.e. 424, 425, and 427, you need to know these anyway to get your spare bits, log into the EPC punch in your chassis number, get your build spec, find the bit you need(early models log in try chassis no, get told it doesnt exsist, start paging through to find what you need...lol)

Except that all the OM352A and OM366LA Engines had oil jets mounted in the Block to direct Oil onto the Crank Journals to cope with the increased stress placed on the bottom end.

They are there for a reason.
