That really is very thin there, it would not take too big a knock to crack it, makes you wonder how they get away with it.

If it looks like I have to try and repair it how would I do best going about it? Any repair I do would have to incorporate an alloy bashguard to stop it happening again, I know there's a few wizards on here that have brought smashed up saws back from the dead, do I need chemical metal/jb weld or something else?

 

If the plastic is the same as stihl's clean everything scrupulously, pull the bits back into place, roughen the surface with sandpaper then fibre glass with epoxy resin, not araldite as that's too stiff out of the tube but ok if you warm it up. I use some stuff for surfboard repair that can be painted on. Put the lot into a plastic bag and use a hair drier to warm the repair for an hour or two. Add a second layer to form a bash guard, maybe use kevlar but I have not tried this.

That looks a easy repair has said with fibre glass resin .

Push it out with a screwdriver then plastic weld it and JBweld a plate on top for in future reinforcement. Make something that bolts into the screws holding the dogs on for a bit more cover.

I had a 310 echo in. They are a turd. Look at the echo line 370 400 450 etc. JMO

 

Stay away from the over priced stihl homeowner saws IMO 171 181 211 etc.

Empty fuel tank and leave open in well ventilated area.

Clean and thoroughly dry repair area.

Form remaining plastic back to shape.

Carefully drill small holes, one each to encompass the ends of the crack to prevent continuance of crack forming.

Clear plastic swarf from inside & outside of repair area.

Using hot air gun, overfill repair by melting a suitably coloured Lego block into gap; smooth flat while warm or sand to finish when cold.

You can melt Lego in acetone to make repair paste but it is for ABS plastic so you need to know what the saw is made of.

If its ABS you can dissolve in with Methyethyketone ( spelling) Or Osma drain cement .
